Lexile Framework

How do you Lexile?

The Lexile framework provides insight into understanding the complexity of a written piece of work. Each grade level is aligned with a numeric range referred to as the College & Career Stretch Lexile Band.  Students are expected to progress from one band to the next as they move through each grade level. Students who do not score within the stretch band of their grade level are perceived as being at risk in terms of being on track for college or career readiness.

Lexile Framework

Georgia’s Department of Education has been very diligent about preparing its students for successful college and career pathways.  Through various testing initiatives, e.g. Georgia Milestones, students receive a Lexile measure based on a portion of the English Language Arts assessment.  Using this score teachers, parents, and students can optimize student opportunity for increasing literacy skills.

Personalized Learning

While learning about the Lexile framework teachers, parents, and students may also find an interest in the Georgia Student Growth Model (GSGM). This information provides data of how similar students across the state compare to each other. Using this information, parents and students can work with teachers to generate enrichment opportunities that would accelerate meeting and exceeding academic expectations.
