Teaching in the Fast Lane
Teaching in the Fast Lane
Literacy across the curriculum is a Georgia Department of Education initiative that teachers are expected to implement throughout the course of the school year. What better way to model and learn the rewards of reading than by completing a book study, a project that teachers typically assign to their students. Using a booklist recommended by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the GCHS leadership team selected Teaching in the Fast Lane by Suzy Pepper Rollins as our book study.
ASCD is a professional organization that evaluates and publishes books for educators. Their publications support building and implementing research based teaching and learning strategies. Using the ASCD study guide as our discussion tool, as a staff we looked for activities and strategies that offered the most opportunity to increase the intrinsic worth of self-motivation for both students and staff.
For specific examples and rewards of our book study our staff members and students have shared, select the area of your interest.
